Any business that has plans for success needs to have web presence.
Even if it's nothing more than a simple website explaining your company, many customers will not even take you seriously if you don't have a URL that they can visit to learn more about your business. Luckily, you can find many companies and freelancers who will design a quality website for your company. In this article I'm hoping to address several concerns and questions you may have about website design for your business.
Can I design my own business website?
You can design your own website -- but if you don't have any experience, this task is better left to professionals. This is your business that you're putting out there for everybody to see. You want to be sure that somebody experienced is handling the task. Developing an impressive, quality website takes years of training and it's not something you can learn in a matter of a few weeks. For the best potential success with your business, a website that customers will remember is of vital importance. The best way to accomplish this is by hiring a professional.
Who holds the copyright for my website?
The answer to that question depends on who paid for the website. If you are a business owner and you hired somebody to design a website for your business, you own the copyright, as long as you pay the website designer for the services. Unless there is a written agreement that states otherwise, this is how most website design transactions take place. If the website designer created the website and you have not paid for it, they will continue to own the copyright until you have paid for the services. Either way, you and the designer should have a written agreement that explains what happens for this type of situation.
Why should I design a website?
A website can serve many purposes. The biggest reason people want a website is because they have a service or a product to offer. A well-designed website will expose their business to a wider audience, as well as provide existing customers with updated information. With a website, the company's information and products are available to customers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It's also cheaper than printing out flyers, newsletters, and brochures. In the age of the world wide web, having a website designed for your business will help prevent you from being left behind.
How much will a company charge me for designing my website?
Companies will charge you a rate that depends on many variables. You will be asked several questions to help decide how much to charge for your particular case. For instance, you will need to know: the size of the website you want, what programs you want on the page, who is going to write the content for your website, who is creating the graphics, and many other factors. Generally, website creation can cost as little as $200 — but for that amount don't expect much in the way of a 'professional' look, nor much tailoring by the designer to your specific needs or industry. Expect to pay anything between $1,000 and $5,000 (or even more) depending on the specifics of what you want. A website design professional can usually give you a quote so you can get a better idea of what they charge.
I'm trying to decide between a freelance website designer and a large company. Any suggestions?
With either choice, there are things that you should consider. A freelance web designer can give you more personalized attention and customized services that a large company may not be willing to offer. You might also get a cheaper price with a freelancer, but big companies often have specials and discounts that you can take advantage. Also, a bigger company has several experts that will work on your website instead of just one. The best thing to do is research some freelance web designers and companies to see which one is best suited for your specific needs.
